I, at the meager age of 12, was able to figure out the program almost entirely on my own through trial and error. Now, I was no genius. In fact, I was and still am pretty dumb. So if I was able to figure it out with little help, that goes to show how easy it is to use. This program is also very powerful.
The only real complaint I have about Metroid: Zero Mission is that it's far too short lived and it wouldn't be surprising if an old Metroid pro worked through this game in one sitting. Metroid: Zero Mission is a great bit of gaming that should be enjoyed instead of rushed so make sure you explore the whole game because it will all be over too soon.
I guess all wonderful things come in small packages. GBA provides a fitting home for the original Metroid , considering it's the game that gave birth to the whole genre of exploration-based action-adventure we'd never have the three great GBA Castlevanias without it.
But Zero Mission isn't merely a portable replacement for that classic 8-bit Metroid cartridge you foolishly sold at a yard sale though that's in here, too --it's a remake that fleshes out every aspect of the landmark title. Veterans of the old-school classic will feel instantly at home back on planet Zebes: You start out on the familiar pedestal in Brinstar, run to the left to grab the Morph Ball, and set out in search of the Long Beam.
But don't think you know exactly what to expect--Zero Mission's newly organic environments pack a ton of surprises: hundreds of tricky secrets, unexpected and challenging boss encounters, original areas to explore, and a stunning new final act that bravely eschews all normal Metroid conventions. If you managed to dodge citrus-colored she-warrior Samus Aran's grapple-beam pull over the years and have never played a Metroid game, this is your chance to finally suit up and get sucked in.
Everything that makes the series so classic-- the killer weapons, spectacular bosses don't listen to Mark , clever level design, moody music, perfect control--is here. And if you're already a Metroid maniac, you'll love Zero Mission even more, regardless of whether you played the original NES game.
It's certainly a more fleshed-out experience, with more bosses, new sticky spots which will take you a while to figure out , and very cool surprises. The creative freedom granted by Editroid is vast. Others looking to produce a quality game hacking utility should look to Editroid for inspiration. Editroid continues to evolve as we see the next release on the horizon bringing new and exciting features including ROM expansion to MMC3, a clever CHR management system which can be used to create complex animations or simply to cycle between addition graphics for greater environmental diversity among others.
