In the beginning, Lightning somehow finds herself guarding the throne of Valhalla, a realm of chaos unbound by time.
She fights a dark-haired man named Caius and — in the midst of battle — meets a stranger from a future age named Noel. You acquire full control of Serah, Noel, and the systems that power them an hour or two after the opening sequence; a stark contrast to the slow build of the original. Environments no longer follow a single path. With webs of rooms to explore and treasure chests hidden off the map, Final Fantasy XIII-2 encourages you to take your time and look around.
You can access these environments, which dot the timeline, in more than one order. While a general flow from one place to another moves the plot along, the freedom to sidetrack greatly enhances the explorative flavor. This system gives you even more things to track down, tweak, and make your own. Considering this, along with the many side quests and secret endings, you have much more content to enjoy.
The battle system also benefits from less obvious, but just as important, alterations. The action gauge returns with role-specific abilities that consume segments of that gauge. But Paradigm Shifts, the act of changing roles mid-fight, have been injected with adrenaline.
Shifts happen so quickly the overall pace of battle feels much faster. Cure My Addiction Chapter 1,2,3,4,5. This has its benefits. In one way, it speeds battles up and eliminates much of the hassle from traditional turn-based affairs. Yet it also takes away the more intimate challenge of those same systems.
But I really loved combat in that game. While this game retains very similar combat system it simply lacks characters. Regardless, make your way N Chocolina's shop - she sells new weapons, new acc, and new monster mats and turn right around the curve, then NE, and N again. At this point you can talk to Noel for LT Talk to the girl to left of Chocolina's and suit up for next boss battle! Once you stagger it, attempt to remove as much HPs as you can.
Once the staggering period is over, Gog shields itself with a barrier that makes it resistant to all attacks. Once you stagger it again, the barrier is gone and Gog takes full damage from everything.
Gog will now ready bigass attack - as soon as caption appears, switch to triple SEN paradigm to greatly reduce the damage. If you don't defeat it during second stagger, the process repeats by Gog casting resistant shield on self, etc. Wait for Hope and Alyssa to stop yapping, then explore the area. Talk to the '! You get OOparts which activate the only orange warp gate in E dead end in middle of the map.
Talk to Hope for LT and then depart for orange warp gate. It's very useful for taking down some tough enemies and bosses. Walk forward, jump the gap in the road and press R1 near dark space to reveal time rift, leading into time labyrinth.
Stand in a spot where a crystal is, then hold X and connect the crystal with one of the connecting crystals. At the time of being connected both crystals have to be of the same color. And some crystals are connected to more than one crystal. Since this is just a warm up, the systems are not hard to connect, but they get progressively harder the further you are in the game. Continue down the road and drop down the ledge thru opening in stone fence to the right.
Proceed SE, then around the house this used to be Vanille's house if you played FFXIII - now you can go down the slope on the right, or enter the plaza in front of the house. Go to the plaza, and close to your left is small set of stairs leading inside the house. On lower level you can nab TB with map of Oerba. NW from Vanille's house is Chocolina's shop - she has some new acc and new misc items.
Approach the dark space on side of the plaza and press R1 at the spot with Moogle's glowing pompom to reveal next time rift. Go up the slope on your left and the proceed W, then turn right and go downstairs. Moogle's pompom lights up near the dark space and another time rift is revealed.
Go downstairs to enter sand-covered passage leading to the stairs, which point N towards the beach. Nearby is also an orange warp gate Go down to the beach, nab Libra Scope from TB, and walk alongside the beach to the ruined school. Go to the rooftop and examine the pedestal with strange multi-sided cube on it. Have these paradigms among your chosen ones: 1. At start of battle, boss fortifies himself with Auto-Life which cannot be dispeled.
He can also produce a mass of buffs on himself, and gain Regen which cannot be dispeled. Switch to setup and pour magic damage until boss is staggered. Switch to setup at this time for some mega damage. At this time boss is likely to put Bravery, Faith and Refen on himself, but just ignore it and continue the assault for victory! Behind you collect OOparts, which activate the orange warp gate near the stairway to the beach. Answer LT, and now return to orange warp gate.
Chocobo riding has also been enabled! Enter the leftmost building and talk to the girl dressed as chocobo to unlock Grand Cross fragment skill. More details shall be added later. Examine the orange warp gate for LT and off you go. Blue warp gate is along the W edge, and orange warp gate is at the very S. But first, run to the encampment in the N to talk to Hope. Before entering the camp a scene will play, after which talk to Noel for LT Chocolina's shop doesn't have anything new, sigh. Talk to Hope for a scene, then try leaving for another scene, talk to Hope for LT, and then ascend the metallic slope next to Hope's tent.
At the top look very closely for a tiny invisible image of an item. Press R1 to uncover it, and then collect???. Walk over to orange warp gate to extreme S in the dead end. Examine the gate, answer "Yes.
This gate leads to AF??? Between Time and Space timeline. Left one leads to Xanadu, but you cannot go very far because the entrance is firmly sealed. Other than the scene and nearby TB there's nothing else you can do here, so beam yourself up via the gate and choose Valhalla node to end up in Valhalla. TB directly S of your position has a map of Valhalla. And that's it. Yup, you're done here! Examine the time gate and off you go. Upon appearing on Historia Crux, there is unlocked node below AF01X Yaschas Massif, which takes you to Xanadu but you still cannot go further than the door.
Regardless, we're done with this, so mosey on over to AF Sunleth Waterscape. Follow Serah to what appears to be a gigantic Flan monster. Hey, is that Snow? Giant Flan T:??? At start of battle entire team gets poisoned, so whip out MED paradigms and Esuna yourself.
Then the Flan keeps slapping you with those big hands of his. Stick Deprotect and Deshell on the tomato until it's staggered, and then bring out the pain with triple COMs. As an added bonus Snow fights alongside you, but you cannot directly control his actions. When boss' HP is quite low, it readies a big slam telegraphed by raising its arms high in the air.
Switch to triple SEN to guard big chunk of damage, then proceed to regular slimekicking. Return to this area later in the game with help of Time Reversal and become the girl with absolute power who takes down bigass flan.
Anyway, currently you're on very N of the map. To your left is N orange warp gate, so just examine it for reference, then go S, grab onto the vine to swing over past giant Flan and reach 4waycross. You came from NE For now steer SE and check in with Chocolina - she has new acc only.
Continue past crazy chocobo girl and path splits. There's an apparition of Flans blocking your way, so get rid of them with R1. Take the left path, walk over tree trunks and use the vine to swing further, then continue to jump up next two platforms until you reach the dead end. Oho, an OOparts! But it's occupied by some minor enemies, which can be quickly dealt with. Jump down to lower platform, but don't grab the vine yet! Continue jumping down and you reach a platform with apparently nothing here.
But take a look around - above you is a fragment! You need the ability which is obtained from other part of this area and we'll go get it now. Return to that vine I told you to ignore and swing across. Chocobo riding enabled - sweet!
Mosey over to 4waycross and check down SW path. Prepare for next boss batt? I got me a monstar! While traversing the area on the beast, party spots several TBs out of reach, and suggest throwing the moogle to retrieve them.
But moogle doesn't approve, hehe. Hold L1 to ready the moogle, move left analog to adjust the angle of the throw, and finally press R1 to toss! A circle at the end of throw arc will tell you where the moogle will land. If it's near TB or TC, he'll get the contents for you. Moogle can also catch monsters, but not in battle. If you toss him at a specific spot, you can find a very special monster - Gold Chocobo, Silver Chocobo, Kichu - to name a few. First you need to acquire the relevant fragment skill, though.
Look to your left now! Get off the beast when it stops, and pass Chocolina to go SE. Use the vine to swing over - when you land, moogle's pompom lights up. NE from your position there's a concealed vine dangling from above, so press R1 to uncover the vine. Don't use that vine, instead go as far S as you can to discover S orange warp gate. Then there's a path that branched off to SW we haven't yet explored.
Jump over tree trunks until you reach the bottom. Another OOparts are being guarded by a bunch of minor enemies. Clear them all to obtain OOparts which activate S orange warp gate. And killing off those enemies also enabled chocobo riding in this part of Waterscape. Return to the vine we've uncovered short while ago and swing over to only unexplored portion left well, there's still left where giant Flan is, but you have to kill it first , collect two TBs and use another vine to land near Chocolina.
At the spot you landed is one more concealed vine, hence use R1 to uncover it. Ride the beast back to 4waycross, take SE path, take a left past the chocobo, swing with the vine over to the E, turn around and drop down to the lone platform with a fragment above you. Now work your way over to N orange warp gate and use it to unlock AF??? Archylte Steppe. To the right of the stairs leading to nomad chief you can find Chocolina some new acc for sale. Talk to nomad chief to obtain map of Archylte Steppe, and then he troubles you with some enemies that are haunting the steppe.
Choose to accept the quest. Go S from the settlement to yellow "! You know they're right one when caption "Target located! Skin them all to accomplish the quest and get AF??? Check the red Cactuar stone and you're warped back to nomad settlement along with AF??? Talk to nomad chief, and now he wants you to talk to the girl tending the sheep just outside his house. Talk to the girl and she mentions that outside noman settlement there are three big sheep grazing in the grass.
Your task is to "talk" to all of them by approaching them and pressing X. Once you nab all three, return to the girl for AF??? Talk to her again and now you can mess with weather control device in chief's house. Talk with the girl nearby for instructions on how to operate it - basically you flip two levers between up and down position. Here's the weather conditions! Talk to the chief for LT, then flip right lever to up position to make stormy weather and remove Long Gui from equation. Depart for Marduk battle!
Marduk T:??? So we'll have to take different approach with paradigms I listed above. At start of battle Marduk charges for one of its big attacks.
Unleash one set of stacked commands and then switch to and wait for boss to land to finish this particular attack. Switch to to heal quickly, and then back to to stagger the foe. Upon achieving so, unleash two more sets of commands for bigger chain boost, and then comply with for mega damage against Marduk. As soon as Marduk breaks out of stagger, it unleashes another big attack, so quickly switch to , and then to recover sustained damage. Marduk has annoying tendency to draw you in close and then follow up by roasting you with flame breath, and it's also keen on wind magic.
After several rounds of fire, wind, heart, earth, water and Captain Planet Marduk readies to charge for its signature move, so wait in until it's finished and repeat the exercise to off the boss.
The timeline unlocked this time is AF??? That was easy. Har har. Near the warp gate is concealed TB with map of Coliseum. Deep in trouble with that flan - why can't he just leave it alone in its demise?
Run to Snow's help once more. Giant Flan weak version T:??? Instead stick Deprotect and Deshell on sucker, then whack it around for a good stagger. Victory cannot elude you much longer. At the spot where Flan was defeated you can nab an item needed for OOparts. Go examine central orange warp gate, choose "Yes. Pick Valhalla node instead and off you go.
After the scenes loot all TBs and then exit Valhalla. Let's visit the latter! Talk to the girl at the entrance to get map of Xanadu, and then enteeeer.
Leftmost house is connected to unlocking fragment skills once you meet certain requirements. At this time I unlocked 1st skill - Mog Catcher can find monsters and items in strange places , and 4th skill - Inflation can sell items for more gil. There are 14 skills in total and they can be found in last entry for your main menu - Fragment Skills. Topmost house features chocobo racing, an excellent way to obtain some kickass accessories - I suggest you rather wait until we grab gold chocobo.
Before exiting the house, check the tiny chicobo on W side to obtain AF??? Rightmost house is the damned casino. Slots should only be used to get the fragment, and then never again. Three frags can be bought for chips.
